BLUES TO BENEFIT THE BOTHWELL - Friday, June 1st at 8:00pm at the Bankhead Theater
A special night of Blues to Benefit the Bothwell begins with folk and blues icon Barbara Dane sharing more than half a century of music, from the classics of Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey to her own acoustic comments on life, accompanied on piano by the great Tammy Hall. Then, bringing us straight into the future of the blues, west coast innovators Big Cat & the Hipnotics, featuring Allen Vega on guitar, take us on a romp through their exciting electric world of rhythm and blues. Proceeds from the performance benefit the Bothwell Arts Center and Downtown Art Studios, whose mission is to support the cultural arts by providing inexpensive rental space for performances, productions, rehearsals, classes in visual arts, dance, music and more, as well as exhibitions, music parties and arts fundraisers.

The Bothwell Arts Center serves as an arts incubator, offering affordable and rentable classroom, rehearsal, performance, event, and studio rental space for artists, musicians, theatrical, acting, choral, and other individuals, groups or events with a cultural arts focus. We also offer an inexpensive Art Gym program, allowing artists working room without a large investment.
We invite you to join the Bothwell family! Since we opened our doors in late 2006, over 20,000 people have benefited from classes, workshops, performances and events at the Bothwell Arts Center, from children to adults. Frequent renters include ABC Music Source, Sycamore Strings Academy, Livermore Opera, Shakespeare's Associates, Livermore Amador Symphony, and many others. The Bothwell is home to the award-winning City of Livermore's Pathways to Picasso Program, regular visual and performing arts teachers and students, and ongoing dance programs.
The Bothwell also offers affordable room rentals for activities with a cultural arts component such as music events, art exhibits, arts & crafts, dance, literary or cultural programs, and in 2010, opened a second site for working visual artists called the Downtown Art Studios.
We depend on fundraisers for a good portion of our budget, such as ArtWalk on the second Saturday of October, and an over-the-top (now biannual) Mardi Gras party we call New Orleans Bash at the Bothwell the Friday before Mardi Gras. Both offer significant exposure for sponsors, opportunities for volunteers and interns who want to get involved, and a lot of fun for the attendees.
Volunteers are always welcome!
